Our Story
I’m Monika, and I work alongside the team at Bare Hands—a small, dedicated group driven by a shared commitment to human rights and a desire to make a tangible difference in the world. We’ve had first-hand experience volunteering and working with various NGOs and humanitarian organisations, including the Red Cross, the Asylum Seeker Resource Centre, and refugee support teams overseas. Our work has included supporting displaced communities, responding to emergencies, and standing alongside people affected by crisis and injustice.
Through these experiences, we recognised a clear gap: the absence of a centralised, accessible space for people who wanted to volunteer for causes they care about. We often found ourselves navigating scattered websites and networks, unsure of where our time could have the greatest impact. That challenge became the starting point for Bare Hands.
We created Bare Hands to make volunteering easier and more meaningful—connecting people with opportunities that align with their values, skills, and capacity. Our mission is to help individuals take action where it’s needed most.
I write the blogs too—it’s one of the ways we stay connected to the stories, people, and places that shape this work. Together, we’re building a global community of changemakers working toward a world where everyone has the chance to contribute, support, and make a difference.
Why This Matters
Humanitarian aid is crucial in a world where nearly 300 million people require assistance due to conflicts, climate emergencies and other crises. The need for support continues to grow—and so does the desire from individuals to help. Our platform makes it easier for people who want to make a difference to do so by connecting them with meaningful opportunities where their time, care and skills are truly needed.
